"The company behind Iceland's fin whaling industry is planning a huge export of whalemeat to Japan. This summer, Hvalur caught 125 fins - a huge expansion on previous years. "Some whale watchers got a rare look Thursday at a humpback whale which suddenly surfaced in the bay under the Golden Gate Bridge. The stray whale may be a one of a record number of humpbacks now migrating off the coast. "Surfers heading to the North Shore over the next couple of days can thank the remnants of former Super Typhoon Choi-wan for the large waves that are expected to reach the Islands. Choi-wan, which threatened Japan and other parts of Asia a few days ago, is now a large low-pressure system south of the Aleutian Islands. "A well-known surfer and Solana Beach resident was sentenced to four years in prison yesterday for driving drunk in a car crash that killed his 24-year-old passenger about 15 months ago in Del Mar.
