"The world's premier women's surfers are coming to New Zealand after Taranaki was today confirmed to host a round of Women's World Tour next year. The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) announced the Taranaki region would host a leg from April 14-18 at 'mobile venue options' including Fitzroy Beach, Rocky Point, Stent Road and Opunake. "It's not every day that people can go out, meet a shark close up, tag it and then follow its progress, but that's what Bermudian filmmaker Choy Aming is offering for a price. After winning the Special Jury Prize at the Bermuda International Film Festival (BIFF) for his nature film 'My Backyard', Mr. Aming joined with Island veterinarian Neil Burnie to start a tiger shark tagging project. Toxic jellyfish kills youth

"A weekend bath in a river proved fatal to one of six youths who accidentally came in contact with a jellyfish in Negros Occidental, a radio report said Monday. Radio dzXL reported the six minors were bathing in a river at Sitio Luyang in Giljungan village in Cauayan town at noon Saturday when the incident occurred. Village chief Lito Gilbosa said the six complained of burning sensation on the skin after getting in contact with the "salabay," a toxic type of jellyfish."by GMAClick here..... More >

"The residents of Padre Burgos town in Southern Leyte province heaved sighs of relief after the tanker carrying 230,000 liters of diesel fuel that ran aground on the town's barrier reef more than two weeks ago was finally removed on Tuesday. Surfers help couple in swim tragedy

"A Philadelphia man's vacation on the New Jersey shore has ended in tragedy. Authorities say 59-year-old Maury Letven and his wife, Amy Kimmich, were swimming Friday afternoon in waters off Barnegat Light when Letven began to struggle for an unknown reason. "More than 14,000 volunteers -- armed with disposable trash bags -- gathered at Los Angeles County beaches, parks and creeks Saturday and removed 150 tons of trash during the region's annual cleanup day. This year's haul marked a 65% increase from last year's total of 181,000 pounds of refuse, organizers said. In addition, the number of volunteers rose by 15% from last year.
